Tom Chapman
This is a recap of the things I have done relating to computer science for my portfolio.
GCSE Results
Achieving 9s for both maths and computer science in addition to earning 8s in physics and chemistry.
Atkins work experience
I worked as a web developer for a week in Atkins working with APIs and caching.
Awards
I have received the award for "Computer Science student of the year" for the past 2 years in my school Silverstone UTC.
Car hacking week
I was specifically picked from all computer science students to hack a Nissan Micra as work experience for a week.
Individual projects
I have completed many projects ranging from using a reverse proxy to access my different server services from one encrypted domain to a fully working 4 bit binary Minecraft calculator.
Future hopes
I aim to attend University for Computer Science therefore I'm trying my hardest to improve my grades and mind to reach my goal.
Working with Atkins
As mentioned before, I worked with Atkins to create an "Airport signage project" which entails determining which language passengers getting off an airplane would speak determined by the origin location of the plane.
The main goals of the project were to retrieve flight data from an API, cache that data, create a simplified API, source the origin information to calculate language spoken, display flight information on a sign hosted online.
In the end we had a working project which accomplished the goals we set out to solve. I gained a lot of knowledge working with Andrew Riggs from Atkins on my work experience and I am thankful I got the opportunity.

This was our planned architecture for the project. This and more can be found on the Github repository.
Car hacking week
3 students of each year (For Computer Science) were chosen to participate in a car hacking week hosted by MASS.
We learnt to create USB to Serial interfaces using PCBs, some solder, and the connectors which we then used with the serial interface on the car to administer commands to it.
Initially this was trial and error as we didn't know the codes which corresponded to each instruction but by reading the output of the car of which code meant what, which we used to our advantage.
Working inside the Nissan Micra

My Minecraft calculator
In the video to the left you can see my Minecraft 4 bit calculator featuring addition and subtraction with a denary input and denary displays.
Computer Science student of the year
I have received the award for Computer Science student of the year for the past 2 years in a row.
